Old Town and Albuquerque Museum

For a first visit, combine a walk around Old Town with Albuquerque Museum at 2000 Mountain Road NW . The museum brings together art and local history, giving context to the buildings and streets outside. Its current visitor page lists Tuesday–Sunday opening; check the date and exhibition information before making plans.

The museum also offers docent-led Old Town and sculpture-garden walks on selected days, subject to availability. Use the current tour page to see what fits your stay. A relaxed museum visit and a meal make a more manageable plan than trying to see several distant attractions between flights.

Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center at 2401 12th Street NW offers a place to learn about Pueblo history and contemporary culture. Check its current exhibitions, cultural program and visitor guidance when planning the visit. Events and performances have their own schedules, so do not assume a particular activity is included every day.

Read the photography rules and follow staff guidance. If you are pairing the visit with a meal or shopping, leave room for those activities in the schedule rather than adding them at the end of a tight airport transfer window.

ABQ BioPark: choose the right site for your day

The BioPark includes the Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden and Tingley Beach. They are separate areas: the Zoo is at 903 10th Street SW , while the Aquarium and Botanic Garden are at 2601 Central Avenue NW . Confirm the location of the ticket you choose.

Choose one main area if you have limited time. Review current opening hours, renovation notices and ticket availability directly with the City of Albuquerque, especially around winter opening patterns and special events. If combining sites, check the available transfer arrangements rather than assuming every attraction is adjacent.

Petroglyph National Monument

For an outdoor visit, explore the monument’s volcanic landscape and rock carvings with guidance from the National Park Service. Choose a trail suited to your available time and mobility, and bring water and protection from the weather.

The visitor information center has no petroglyph viewing trails. The viewing areas are at separate locations, so select the correct trailhead before setting your route. Read the current trail information, opening hours and conditions. Stay on permitted paths and follow the park’s instructions for protecting the carvings.

Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum

At 9201 Balloon Museum Drive NE , the Balloon Museum explores ballooning through its history, science and equipment. It is an option for an extended city stay, especially if aviation is part of your interest in the trip.

Check the museum’s calendar and visitor information for your date, including any event closure. Allow for the cross-city journey from the airport area. A museum visit is also easier to schedule than assuming a weather-dependent balloon flight can fit into a short gap before departure.

Fit sightseeing around your Sunport journey

These attractions are city visits, not places within walking distance of the airport terminal. Plan the outward journey, the visit and the return separately. Set a firm time to leave for your hotel or parking facility, then keep additional time for the shuttle and check-in.

  • Before an overnight stay: choose an attraction that fits hotel check-in and the next morning’s departure.
  • After returning to ABQ: collect luggage and the car first, then make a realistic plan based on how you feel.
  • Between flights: check boarding, baggage and security requirements before deciding to leave the airport.
  • For outdoor visits: check current conditions, carry water and choose a route you can comfortably finish.

Confirm parking and accommodation first. Our directions guide , Sunport airport guide and Albuquerque hotel search can help connect the parts of the journey.
